Which horoscope should you read?
Sun, Moon or rising? Start with how the horoscope was written—not whichever prediction sounds nicest.
The short answer
Read the sign the publisher says its forecast is based on. A Sun-sign column, a Moon-sign rashifal and a rising-sign forecast are not interchangeable. If the instructions are missing, check the introduction or ask the author before treating the reading as personal.
A sign-based horoscope is shared by a large group of readers. It is not an individual birth-chart reading, and none of these choices makes a prediction a certainty.
Sun sign
The zodiac sign occupied by the Sun at birth. Use it when the column explicitly asks for your Sun sign.
Moon sign
The sign occupied by the Moon at birth. Many Vedic rashifal publications use this convention; check the stated method.
Rising sign
Also called the ascendant or lagna. It depends on birth time and place. Use it for a forecast explicitly written for rising signs.
Why advice differs between websites
Astrology.com recommends starting with the rising sign for the approach described in its horoscope-reading guide. AstroSage’s Moon-sign horoscope page asks readers to choose their natal Moon sign. Those are different editorial methods, not a universal rule that one sign always wins.
Western and Vedic services may also use different zodiac systems. Do not assume a sign from one app is the right input for another publisher. Look for labels such as tropical, sidereal and the named calculation settings.
A simple example
Imagine your chart lists a Leo Sun, a Taurus Moon and a Virgo ascendant. A column labelled “Sun-sign horoscope” calls for Leo. A Moon-sign rashifal calls for Taurus in that publication’s zodiac system. A rising-sign forecast calls for Virgo. This is an illustrative example, not a calculated chart or a reading.
Reading all three is optional. You do not have to combine conflicting forecasts into a decision—or keep searching until you find one that reassures you.
What if you do not know your birth time?
Do not use a guessed rising sign as though it were confirmed. If a calculator fills in noon, that is an assumption, not recovered birth information. The Moon sign can also be uncertain when the Moon changes signs during the possible birth window.
Use a service that explains what remains uncertain. If you only know a familiar birthday-based Sun sign, choose a column explicitly written for that system rather than guessing the other signs.
Read for reflection, not instructions
Try asking: “Does this theme connect with something I have actually noticed?” Then separate the observation from the forecast. A horoscope should not be the reason you leave a partner, resign, invest money or postpone medical care.
Raahi is being built for personal AI astrology conversations, starting with Vedic astrology. The app is coming soon; this website does not currently calculate your signs or provide live readings.
Ready to read a forecast?
Raahi’s forecasts state their convention clearly: they are written for your Vedic Moon sign, use a sidereal Lahiri reference, and show the shared transits behind the interpretation.
